Expanding the Curriculum

Lower Covey recognises the value of different activities and aims to provide a range of differing learning opportunities.

Children in all areas of the nursery are provided with opportunities to learn in different ways, using indoor and outdoor space in addition to the EYFS curriculum, Montessori Method and Forest School.

We also have a weekly visit from Hollie who is a trained Relax Kids coach.  Relax Kids is a programme which aims to create calm, confident kids through a seven-step system of dance and movement, drama and relaxation games, stretching, peer massage, breathing exercises, affirmations, mindfulness and visualisations.  The children really look forward to this weekly experience.  If they would like to join in at home, you can subscribe to Hollie’s You Tube Channel, which is called Rainbeau Relaxation with Hollie.

The children in the Montessori Classroom visit our local church, St. Andrew's Yetminster once a month for a toddler service. They also get the opportunity to learn about the church building itself, and even look at the bells!

Lower Covey also creates learning opportunities by inviting parents, members of our community and other professionals in to talk to the children and lead activities based on the children's interests. In the past, we have had visits from dentists, veterinarians, flight attendants, grandparents who live in different countries, parents who grew up in a different cultures and lots of visits from family pets!

We celebrate festivals from different cultures to help us learn about different parts of the world. Some of the festivals we have celebrated with the children and their families include Norwegian Day, Canadian Thanksgiving, Vietnamese New Year, Hanukkah, Christmas, Diwali and Easter. We incorporate many different languages into our classrooms to reflect the multicultural background of many of our children.
